Community Work
Projects:
The A Team is ENYP’s Social
Action Team that works within the co
ENYP works with the local Safer Neighbourhood Action Panels;
who with agencies such as the Police and Council, meet local neighbourhood priorities and
bring positive change to communities.
Representation is on the Panels for Thorpe Hamlet/Heartsease and Thorpe St
Andrew.
ENYP runs various family events and supports the work of local churches in reaching the community (such as the Thorpe Hamlet Garden festival)
Bridging the Gap (Intergenerational work)
ENYP seeks to improve community relations by bridging the gap through a range of intergenerational projects. For example, some of the pupils serve food and clear tables at a community luncheon club, and a reminiscence project provides an opportunity for old and young to use multi-sensory objects as triggers to memory and conversation.
Community Luncheon Club
Is an exciting project which involves young people
from Heartsease Primary School giving up their lunch times to serve food to
the elderly at a local luncheon club. With great enthusiasm they serve, talk
and listen to each other - sharing thoughts, concerns and stories from
their own generational perspective.

Bridging the Gap
A model for intergenerational
activities in Norwich ENYP, working in partnership with Age UK Norwich and
Norwich Living History Group, have created a model for working across the
generations, using reminiscence based activities. This model has been
successfully implemented in Heartsease Primary School, and has potential for
use by church and community
groups across the city.
The Model: 6-8 young people work alongside 6-8 older
people initially for six
sessions, with a view to creating a sustainable and ongoing project –
sharing memories, getting to know each other and forming relationships which
bridge the gap across generations.
Intergenerational reminiscence activities - benefits for the local
community:
Community Cohesion – bringing together
different generations through
meaningful activities and interactions helps to break down barriers within
the community by improving communication between generations.
Community Safety – increasing understanding between generations,
including
breaking down stereotypes and providing positive role models helps to
prevent anti-social behaviour and challenges false perceptions.
Health and Well-being – bringing different generations together to
exchange skills and knowledge enables all members of the community to feel
useful and productive and thus helps to improve health and well-being within
the community as a whole.
Age Friendly Society – Challenging stereotypical images of old and
young people, and enabling each to contribute to the group in a meaningful
way, helps to create an ‘age friendly’ society where people are enabled to
live out their full potential whatever their age
Every Person Matters – Developing strategies and activities which
bring together people of different generations and experiences within the
community, contributes to the Every Child Matters agenda held by schools and
children’s centres. Participants of all ages gain increased confidence
in the effectiveness of community based projects.

What is streetwise?
Motivated and capable individuals patrolling in at least pairs for a minimum of 2 hours per month. Patrols will be focused on improving the communities. Opportunities for cohesion, looking for ways to intervene to protect/reduce harm to vulnerable persons, providing information to council/police where action is required, seeking feedback from communities, deterring damaging activities.
Why do we need streetwise?
communities need to re-gain ownership of their neighbourhoods.
Police and the Council working alone cannot build a community.
Fear of crime and anti-social behaviour is far greater than the reality.
vulnerability exists right here on our doorstep.
YOU CAN help the community to nurture, develop, sustain, achieve, thrive....

accreditation called an Arts Award.

involvement in a range of creative activities.

Our
young people's forum provides the opportunity for young
people to get more involved with the future development of ENYP by contributing
their ideas and feedback.

Every ENYP youth club or activity will has two YPF
representatives
who are the spokespeople on behalf of their group. The YPF representatives
will meet with their relevant group leader once a half term to chat and bounce ideas off one another. The aim is to be constantly in touch with what children and young people want and expect
from the groups they attend. It will also empower and equip the children
and young people as they realise their importance and significance in
ENYP. It also aims to encourage older members to become more actively
involved in the project by volunteering their time, energy and skills at
different groups and activities.

The forum group meetings are on the following dates (individual group reps will meet seperately at a time suitable to the reps and group leaders):
